As it was established with the support of Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon, the Lord Chamberlain, the organization was originally known as the Lord Chamberlain’s Men. Shakespeare was a member of The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, a play that had its debut in 1594. Henry Condell, John Heminges, and Richard Burbage were among the players who made up the company.
The organization was renamed the King’s Men in 1603, the year James I was crowned king of England, and he became its patron. The King’s Men rose to prominence as one of the era’s most popular playing troupes, entertaining both aristocracy and commoners. Shakespeare and his fellow performers controlled the Globe Theater, where they gave their performances.
The Globe Theatre had three distinct sections: the stage, the audience area, and the yard. A raised platform that stretched into the audience’s seats served as the stage, enabling a closer-quarters performance. There were three levels to the dining area, with the top level being reserved for the affluent. There was no seating for the commoners in the yard in front of the stage.
