The complicated healthcare system in the United States includes both for-profit and nonprofit hospitals. It’s a popular question whether or not the majority of hospitals in the United States are for-profit. In 2018, 58% of hospitals in the United States were non-profit, 21% were for-profit, and 21% were owned by the government, according to data from the American Hospital Association. Although they are less popular than non-profit hospitals, for-profit hospitals are nevertheless widely used in the American healthcare system.
