FedEx and UPS are two of the biggest shipping companies in the world, with a combined revenue of over $150 billion in 2020. Who established their company first? The rivalry between the two businesses is well known.
Frederick W. Smith founded FedEx, formerly known as Federal Express, in 1971. While a student at Yale University, Smith developed the concept for an overnight delivery business. He set out to develop a faster and more dependable delivery service because he thought there was a need for it. FedEx launched its first flight in 1973, and it quickly expanded to become a significant force in the shipping sector.
On the other hand, UPS began as a modest messenger service in Seattle, Washington, in 1907. The company grew slowly over the years, expanding its services to include delivery by truck and air. In the 1970s, UPS started concentrating more on air delivery, and in 1982, UPS Airlines, its own airline, was introduced.
