A DBA has the drawback of offering no liability protection for the business owner. The owner’s assets may be at stake if the company is sued or goes into debt. Additionally, a DBA does not give the company name any trademark protection. A DBA’s lack of legal separation from the owner is another drawback, which might make it more challenging to secure funding or sign contracts.
